The winch was designed for use with braid or monofilament, it is recommended to put the line onto the winch drum so the line feeds from the top of the drum. The winch may be mounted onto a beach spike and there is a handle with easy access to the ON/OFF/MOMENTARY switch to help hold the winch upon retrieval when under load. The winch may also be rod mounted by removing the mounting tube and replacing it with the optional reel mount. If using braid It is recommended to put double sided tape on the drum centre to stop the braid from slipping around the drum centre upon retrieval. Clean the winch after your days fishing, it is OK to wash the drum and chassis with a hose and wipe the motor over with a wet rag, but it is not advisable to power wash the winch motor as water could be forced into the motor or electrics. There is provision for securing a 12- 16.8v lead acid or 12v 18.2ah lithium battery onto the winch chassis by way of a Velcro strap, an XT-60 connector is used for long life and convenience. The switch has 3 positions, ON-OFF-MOMENTARY, the MOMENTARY position is used when the hooks and traces are being removed from the main line and returns to the STOP position once released for safety purposes. It is advisable to check the tension on the line from time to time upon retrieval and depending on the tension on the line due to the weight of the catch or clumps of seaweed etc it is a good idea to stop the retrieval if necessary so the motor and drum are not overloaded, this is especially necessary when using monofilament as the stretch of the line builds up pressure on the drum winch can distort the drum sides or even crush the drum centre if overloaded. Important: Do not lubricate the drum bush as sand will stick and grind the bush and drum shaft. The motor is 12v is extremely powerful and can be powered with any type of 12v – 16.8v battery. For reliability and safety do not overload the motor or use the winch for any other purpose.
